Essential Oil Blends for Every Mood

Essential Oil Blends for Every Mood

Whether you use a diffuser, oil burner or a rollerball, these essential oil recipes are perfect for every occasion.

Although I think that candles will always be my favourite way to bring warmth and scent to a room, using essential oils is a special way to customise your favourite scents whilst using natural, non-toxic products. These essential oil blends can be used in a rollerball mixed with a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, or added to an oil diffuser (either the electric or tealight variety), as well as being used as a pillow spray or room mist.

One reason I love using essential oils is the capability to DIY your own scents. Perfume is a very personal thing, and often I find that shop-bought candles and diffusers don’t quite meet the mark. By creating your own scent stories with essential oils, you can create a completely custom diffusion with whichever essential oils you have at home. Here are a few of my favourites.

Sleepy Sunshine

This is probably my favourite essential oil blend of all time. Spritzing this onto my pillow will send me drifting off into a deep, sunshine drenched sleep without fail.

Lavender

Sweet Orange

Frankincense

The ratio I use for this blend is usually 3:2:1, with lavender standing proud as the heavy, lustrous top note. The sweet orange oil brings a sweet freshness to the blend whilst the frankincense wraps everything together in a musky, luxurious blanket.

Autumn Forest

Another favourite, this zesty, warm blend is the perfect ‘home’ scent for your diffuser.

Sandalwood

Bergamot

Clary Sage

The ratio I use for this blend is 1:1:1, but the ratio of Clary Sage can be increased if you like a more ‘sleepy’ scent. This trio of scents creates an indescribable fusion where it’s difficult to identify each individual note, it’s just a perfect, woody, fresh aroma. I love the way that the zesty freshness of bergamot entwines with the heavy bergamot and spicy sandalwood, and find that this makes as good a living room scent as it does a bedroom blend.

Citrus Spa

Finally, this scent is inspired by a gift set by Sanctuary that I used whilst on holiday in Thailand. The heady mix of patchouli and orange is a scent I’ll never forget.

Patchouli

Sweet Orange

Vanilla

I tend to mix and match the ratio of this blend, but find that 1:2:1 usually works best. This makes the most luxurious smelling bath oil (dilute with jojoba or sweet almond oil and add to bath whilst the water is running) and is a perfect bedroom scent.

Remember, always dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil or water, and bear in mind that some oils will stain surfaces & clothes and may irritate the skin if not diluted efficiently.

I mostly purchase my essential oils from eBay and Amazon, just make sure when buying to check that they are essential oils and not synthetic fragrance oils! Some of the brands I have previously purchased include Pyrrla and Mood Essential Oils.

Let me know if you try any of these blends, I’d love to know what you think!
